Russia-Ukraine war, former F1 boss Ecclestone defends Putin: “Ready to die for him, Kiev could have avoided the conflict”

LONDON. Bernie Ecclestone does not betray his friendship with Vladimir Putin and, in an interview granted today to “Good Morning Britain”, the popular morning talk show of Itvdefends the Russian president from the accusations about the war in Ukraine with shocking statements, out of scale compared to the British media context today: calling him “a first-class person” and saying he is ready to “take a bullet for him”, where ever was necessary.

The extremely wealthy 91-year-old former British boss of Formula 1 admits that Putin, “like us businessmen,” may have “made mistakes”. But he says he is sure that he is trying to shelter them and in any case declares himself convinced that he has ordered military action in Ukraine, believing he is doing “the right thing for Russia” and her people. At the same time, he jokes about the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, referring to him as “that former comedian”, accusing him of not having sought in time an agreement that could have said that he had avoided war.

Ecclestone finally criticizes the cancellation of the F1 calendar of the Russian Grand Prix; and above all the boycott in motoring as in other sports of various pilots and athletes punished for political reasons just for having a Russian passport: «I – cut short – I would never have done it».
