In several cities in Russia some citizens are gathering in squares or other symbolic places to pay homage with a flower the company of Alexei Navalny, the Russian dissident who died today – Friday 16 February – in a penal colony in Siberia. In some cases, however, police are preventing citizens from gathering and depositing items. In the images, law enforcement officers remove flowers and candles or disperse crowds in Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Kazan.
