Sedapar water cut in Arequipa: supply points and arrival times of the tankers for today

Approximately 90% of the population of Arequipa has been affected by the shortage of drinking water caused by the rains and subsequent landslides that have caused the paralysis of the operations of the Arequipa Drinking Water and Sewerage Service (Sedapar).

The turbidity of the Chili River has increased to levels that prevent its processing in the La Tomilla and Miguel de la Cuba Ibarra plants, which supplies most of the Arequipa population. Given this situation, Sedapar has been forced to suspend water collection, closing the floodgates to avoid affecting the system.

In addition, the Cincel and Campanario reservoirs, belonging to the Electric Generation Company of Arequipa SA, have been affected by the rains, leading to the opening of their floodgates. This has contributed to raising the turbidity of the water in the area.

As a consequence, the inhabitants of several districts of Arequipa have not had the supply for several days. While Sedapar takes steps and evaluates plans to restore service, it has deployed a contingency plan that includes the distribution of water resources through cisterns in critical areas.

Through its social networks, the company has announced the supply points as well as the arrival times of the tankers that will provide water to the population that has been affected. It is worth mentioning that Sedapar is prioritizing medical centers.

On social networks, several Sedapar users claimed that there are areas where the tankers have not reached even once to provide the essential resource.

Some of the places that have not received the attention of Sedapar are: the Mariscal Castilla, Túpac Amaru, South America, semi-rural Pachacútec areas belonging to the Cerro Colorado district, Yura district, Miraflores district, Jose Luis Bustamante y Rivero district, Cayma, Selva Alegre, among others.

So far, the drinking water supply company in Arequipa does not have an established date or time for the restoration of the service, which has caused discomfort in the population.

The company has indicated that the resolution of the problem of water turbidity “is beyond the efforts” they have been making. They mentioned that they require the commitment of the entities involved in the administration of water resources. For this reason, a meeting took place with delegates from Sedapar, Egasa, Autodema, Senamhi, Cerro Verde and ALA Chili.

They also pointed out that, although the measures agreed upon in the meeting with the aforementioned entities are executed, the restoration of drinking water depends largely on “the climatic condition” in Charcani, a town center in the Paucarpata district where the La Tomilla plants are located. and Miguel de la Cuba Ibarra.
