Finnes admits that he is not a civil economist, and that he himself has used the title “on a few occasions”, writes the newspaper.
DN writes that Finnes has used the title from the Norwegian School of Economics since the 1990s, but when the newspaper asks for access to his thesis, the school replies that they cannot find that Finnes has submitted the civil economist report at NHH.
– In NHH’s systems, we do not find that Sindre Finnes has submitted the civil economist report to NHH. To become a “civilian economist” (a protected title), reports must be submitted and approved, says media contact Ingrid Aarseth Johannessen to DN.
Finnes points to the fact that he studied at NHH from 1986 to 1989, but that he did not submit the thesis for the civil economics degree.
– On certain occasions, I have used the title civil economist, something that has stuck with me. This was a mistake on my part, and I apologize for that. I should also have corrected it when there was mention of this in the press, says Finnes.
Finnes is married to Høyre leader Erna Solberg, who says that she has never believed that her husband was a civil economist.
