The first of two women’s competitions at the Ski Flying World Cup in Vikersund was canceled on Saturday morning. Bad weather at Monsterbakken with strong gusts and lots of snow made it impossible to hold the event. It is still unclear whether the first men’s competition can be held from 4 p.m.

“It’s a shame, of course, but there’s nothing you can do about the weather. That’s sensible, in such conditions it becomes dangerous – regardless of whether it’s a woman or a man,” said record world champion Katharina Schmid, who was hoping for her first 200-meter flight.
Another competition is scheduled for the women on Sunday (10 a.m.). “I hope that the weather tomorrow will be as predicted – it should be quite good,” said Schmid. The following weekend the season finale will take place with a competition in Planica.
The Slovenian Nika Prevc can only theoretically win the overall World Cup. Prevc leads with 194 points ahead of defending champion Eva Pinkelnig, with a maximum of 200 points up for grabs. The Austrian would have to win both competitions and initially not start Prevc on Sunday or be disqualified. Since there are only 17 jumpers at the start, Prevc would otherwise win at least 14 points and the big crystal ball early.
