SRF sends musical talent to the “Eurovision Young Musicians” competition – News

As part of the promotion of Swiss musical talent, SRF is one of twelve European TV channels taking part in the classical music competition “Eurovision Young Musicians” this year. To do this, SRF selects and accompanies a young talent to the competition final, which will take place on August 17, 2024 in Bodø, Norway, the European Capital of Culture 2024.

SRF is sending a young classical music talent between the ages of 12 and 21 to the international music competition “Eurovision Young Musicians” in Norway. In order to find this, the Swiss music universities and conservatories as well as the Swiss Youth Music Competition were brought on board, which have nominated their most promising young instrumentalists to audition for a pre-selection at the SRF cultural location in Basel in spring 2024.

“Promoting musical talent from all genres is important to us.”

“Promoting musical talent from all genres is important to us,” emphasizes Theresa Beyer, responsible for music offerings at SRF Kultur. “I am therefore very pleased that we can offer a young artist such a large European stage and thus a potential springboard for a musical career.”

A three-person jury of experts, consisting of the pianist Oliver Schnyder, the conductor and violinist Manuel Oswald and Eva Oertle, flautist and music editor at SRF Kultur, will decide which young Swiss hope will play with a professional symphony orchestra in the final show in Bodø on August 17, 2024.

Since its founding in 1982, “Eurovision Young Musicians” has quickly become one of the most important international music competitions for aspiring classical talent. Every two years, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU for short) organizes the competition in collaboration with a European TV broadcaster. This year’s edition is hosted by Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

On August 17, 2024, young people from all over Europe will demonstrate their musical talent live in front of an international jury of experts and audience at Stomen Konserthus in Bodø. The selected candidates each play a solo work with an orchestra (performance duration: 6:30 min).
