Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the country on a military plane bound for the Maldives. Local authorities announced it. The 73-year-old leader left with his wife and a bodyguard following protests against him in recent days.
Rajapaksa had been in an unknown location since Saturday, the day of the demonstrations. The president would have left in a military plane.
