STELLANTIS Increased production of modules for electric propulsion: new dedicated site in Hungary – Companies

Thanks to an investment of 103 million euros (which benefits from the allocation of the Hungarian government), Stellantis has announced that it intends to increase the production capacity of EDM by starting production, by the end of 2026, also in the Szentgotthard plant, in Hungary.

The Company will thus be able to count on a new site dedicated to the production of EDM, which joins the plants in Tremery-Metz, France, and Kokomo, Indiana, USA. Additionally, during 2024 the Mirafiori district in Italy will increase production of next-generation electrified dual-clutch transmissions (eDCT) for Stellantis hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

EDMs produced in Szentgotthard will be used in vehicles assembled on a new STLA platform dedicated to BEVs. EDM production will take place in the factory’s existing facilities. The new production activities of electric propulsion modules at the plant will include the machining of key components, as well as the final assembly and testing of EDM 3 in 1, the solution that brings together the electric motor, the gearbox assembly in a single unit and the inverter.

Currently, the Szentgotthard plant assembles 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder and 1.6-liter 4-cylinder combustion engines, used in a wide range of Stellantis vehicles. Stellantis employees will participate in training and refresher sessions, so as to obtain the skills necessary for EDM processing and assembly.

Over the next 10 years, Stellantis plans to invest over 50 billion euros in electrification to achieve the objectives of the Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, which envisage reaching 100% of the sales mix with battery electric vehicles by 2030 ( BEV) for passenger transport in Europe and 50% with BEV passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the United States.

To achieve these sales goals, the Company is securing approximately 400 GWh of planned battery capacity, supported by six battery manufacturing facilities in North America and Europe. Stellantis is on track to become a zero-carbon company by 2038, all scopes included, with single-digit offsetting of remaining emissions.
