FC Bayern: Joshua Kimmich clashes with assistant coach Löw

As of: 9:22 p.m. | Reading time: 2 minutes

FC Bayern also loses in Bochum. Joshua Kimmich is substituted early and is angry. After the game there was an argument with Tuchel’s assistant coach. “Josh must have been reasonably well served,” says the club boss.

Joshua Kimmich was angry. First in the game, then afterwards. FC Bayern lost 2:3 (1:2) at VfL Bochum and thus probably lost the championship. The Munich team is now eight points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. And the supposed leading player Kimmich was once again not on the pitch for more than 90 minutes in the VfL game.

This time the midfielder found himself in the starting line-up, but was taken off the pitch by coach Thomas Tuchel after just 62 minutes. He was replaced by winter signing Bryan Zaragoza, who came on as a substitute for the first time. And Kimmich looked visibly dissatisfied.

But there were truly heated scenes after the final whistle. On the way to the dressing room, Kimmich and Tuchel’s assistant coach Zsolt Löw clashed. In a video you can see that Löw swears wildly on the way to the dressing room. On the stairs towards the catacombs, goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer intervened, tried to settle the argument and pulled assistant coach Löw by his jacket.

“I know what was going on,” says Tuchel

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen explained the incident: “Josh must have been somewhat served on the substitute bench.” And Tuchel said: “I know what was going on. This is not for the public.” But this much can be said: “We are in a football locker room. This is a pretty normal occurrence if kept within limits. And it stayed within limits.”

The 44-year-old Löw played as a professional for, among others, TSG Hoffenheim and Mainz 05. As a national player for Hungary, he played 25 international matches. He has been working with Tuchel since 2018. Tuchel brought the coach from RB Leipzig – where he also worked as an assistant coach – and then took him with him to his positions at Chelsea in the English Premier League and now at FC Bayern in the Bundesliga.
