Stirred in controversy, Man City reaches the FA Cup final after defeating Chelsea

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Manchester City qualify for the final Cup FOUR after beating Chelsea with a score of 1-0 in a match filled with controversy in the semifinals at Wembley Stadium, London, Sunday (21/4) early morning WIB.

Phil Foden had the opportunity to put Man City ahead in the 15th minute. Kevin De Bruyne’s through ball was able to reach Foden but his touch on the ball was not perfect so he didn’t get the ideal angle to be able to execute the ball into the Blues’ goal.

Nicolas Jackson wasted the opportunity to put Chelsea ahead in the 29th minute. Jackson, who escaped the offside trap, only had to face Stefan Ortega but made the wrong decision and took too long to control the ball which resulted in the Blues wasting their chance.

In the 37th minute it was Cole Palmer’s turn to get the chance. The Chelsea star fired a low shot from inside the penalty box which Ortega could read well.

Jackson got two chances at the start of the second half. But Man City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega appeared alert under the Man City rule to thwart these two opportunities.

In the 53rd minute it was Man City’s turn to have a chance. It’s just that Foden’s shot from inside the penalty box after receiving Jack Grealish’s pass was blocked by Petrovic.

Controversy then occurred three minutes later. Palmer’s free kick was clearly seen hitting Grealish’s arm which was a live fence in the penalty box.

In the replay, Grealish’s arm also appeared to move when the ball was kicked by Palmer. However, the referee did not see it as a penalty even after briefly checking the input of the referee on duty in the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) room.

Chelsea substitute Jeremy Doku had the opportunity to put his name on the scoreboard. But his left footed shot was still saved by Petrovic.

The Citizens were finally able to break the deadlock in the 84th minute. The ball thrown up by Petrovic’s sweep led to Bernardo Silva who swiftly kicked the ball into the Chelsea goal.

The Blues tried hard to equalize in the remaining time of the match. However, Man City was able to maintain a 1-0 lead to ensure their progress to the top match.
