“We cannot allow foreign states to interfere in our democracy, and I am ready to take further action against Russia if it continues to do so,” Biden added. “Russia and the United States can and must work together”, now is “the time for de-escalation”.

On the day he decided on sanctions against Russia, American President Joe Biden made it clear that he wanted to continue the dialogue with Moscow. I proposed a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin this summer in Europe, to launch a dialogue of strategic stability.

“President Putin and I have an important responsibility in carrying out our relations. I take it very seriously and I am sure he does too – said Biden – Russians and Americans are proud and patriotic peoples. And I believe that the Russians, like the Americans, they are committed to a secure and peaceful future of the world “.

In his speech, Biden also expressed clear American support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but did not mention the story of the dissident Alexei Navalny. The president called on Russia to “refrain from any military action”, reiterating to Putin “the unwavering support for our allies and concern for the growing military presence on the Ukrainian border”.
