Tesla recalls nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks due to accelerator pedal problem

Tesla is recalling 3,878 of its Cybertrucks because of an accelerator pedal problem that could increase the risk of crashes, the federal safety regulator said. “The trapped accelerator pedal can cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a recall notice for the Cybertruck, Tesla’s new electric vehicle, launched on market in November 2023.

«An unapproved modification introduced lubricant to facilitate assembly of the pad components to the accelerator pedal. The residual lubricant reduced the pad’s retention on the pedal.” The NHTSA said the recall affects “all Model Year (‘MY’) 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023 through April 4, 2024.”

Earlier this month, Tesla told its employees it would lay off “more than 10%” of its global workforce. The layoffs could impact more than 14,000 people and come two weeks after the electric automaker reported its first year-over-year sales decline since 2020. The company also warned that sales growth could be ”significantly lower” in 2024 than the stated goal of 50% growth each year.
