The hit Thai comedy horror film Pee Mak will be reworked into an Indonesian version. The Indonesian version of the remake film carries the title Mr. Mak (from Pee Mak).
Kang Mak stars Vino G Bastian and Marsha Timothy as the main characters. The film produced by Falcon Pictures will also start shooting this week.

“We start shooting tomorrow, please pray for the shooting process to go smoothly,” said Kang Mak’s producer, Frederica, quoted from an official statement, Wednesday (31/1). “The background [remake ini] because the film is good, the story is good, so we want it remake this movie,”
Pee Mak (2013), the original version of Kang Mak, carries the comedy horror genre and romance. The film tells the story of Mak and Nak, a husband and wife who had to be separated in the midst of war in the 19th century.
Mak was recruited to serve in the war. This assignment forced Mak to leave his wife who was heavily pregnant.
One day, Mak, who was still at war, did not know that his wife would soon give birth. The child who lives alone is in pain and does not get help during childbirth.

Rumors eventually spread that Nak died during childbirth and had now turned into a wandering spirit. However, Mak didn’t realize this when he met his wife in spirit form when he returned from the war.
When it aired in 2013, Pee Mak achieved great success on the international stage. The film, starring Mario Maurer and Davika Hoorne, scored a box office of more than 1 billion baht, and was even recorded as the highest-grossing Thai film of all time.

A number of actors were also confirmed to be joining the film project, such as Tora Sudiro, Indro Warkop, Indra Jegel, Aming, and Rigen Rakelna.
Then, TJ Ruth, Ence Bagus, Tarzan, and Andre Taulany were also involved in Kang Mak. The film also features a Thai dancer who has had a long career in Indonesia, Jirayut.
Kang Mak directed by Herwin Novianto. Herwin is known as the director of Land of Paradise… He Says (2012), A Million Loves for Her (2020), and Fireworks (2023).
Meanwhile, the script was written by Alim Sudio, who has worked on a series of popular films. For example, Makmum (2019), Mariposa (2020), Losmen Bu Broto (2021), Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2022), to Buya Hamka (2023).
Kang Mak (from Pee Mak) is scheduled to appear in cinemas in 2024. However, there has been no official statement regarding the release date of the remake film.
