Thailand Failed to Qualify for the Quarter Finals

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Thailand failed to qualify for the quarterfinals 2024 U-23 Asian Cup after losing 0-1 to Tajikistan in the final Group C match at Al Janoub Stadium, Al Wakrah, Monday (22/4) evening WIB.

This defeat made Thailand occupy the bottom position in Group B with a collection of three points from the three matches played. The two teams that qualified from the group are Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Thailand performed poorly in the first half against Tajikistan. Issara Sritaro’s men continue to be under pressure from Tajikistan who must win to open up a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Tajikistan can generate a number of opportunities. However, the opportunities obtained could not be converted into goals.

Abdullo Sharipov made an attempt to score a goal in the 14th minute. The Tajikistan midfielder fired a shot from the penalty box which was still on the left side of the goal.

A minute later, Sharipov again spread threats. This time his speculative shot from outside the penalty box was still over the Thai crossbar.

Thailand never reacted even though Tajikistan continued to pressure it. Tajikistan got another chance through Amadoni Kamolov but it was still saved by goalkeeper Thirawooth Sruanson.

Luckily for Thailand, Tajikistan was not good enough in the final finish. The first half ended goalless between the two teams.

Thailand reacted after appearing disappointing in the first half. Changsuek took the initiative to attack which resulted in the creation of several threats to Tajikistan’s goal.

Teerasak Poeiphimai got a golden opportunity in the 52nd minute. However, the Thai striker’s shot was still too weak to be easily secured by the Tajikistan goalkeeper.

Thailand even got two consecutive opportunities in the middle of the second half. It’s just that Settasit Suvannaseat and Chitsanuphong Coti’s opportunities still haven’t resulted in goals.

Thailand was actually shocked by Tajikistan in second half injury time. Amadoni Kamolov’s pass was met by Manuchehr Safarov’s accurate header which rattled Sruanson’s goal.

The goal scored by Safarov was the difference in this match. Thailand had to admit Tajikistan’s superiority with a narrow score of 0-1.
