The albums of my life by… Ruarri Joseph (William The Conqueror)

They say about the British trio William The Conqueror that sound as if Bob Dylan y Tom Petty They would have been twenty-somethings in Seattle in the nineties, in the midst of the grunge explosion.

Now they will show us if the comparisons are fine during their visit to our territory to present the songs from their fourth album, “Excuse Me While I Vanish”published last year.

Ruarri Joseph He reveals to us what the six albums of his life are, and this is the result. William The Conqueror will be performing tomorrow at Zaragoza (May 9, Rock & Blues), on Friday, May 10 in Avilés (Factoría) and on Saturday, May 11 in Madrid (Sala Clamores). Tom Waits
Alice
(2002)

Loosely based (I think) on a musical Waits made about Lewis Carroll’s obsession with his neighbor girl (for whom he wrote “Alice in Wonderland”). “A secret kiss brings madness along with happiness.” Dark, delicate and devastatingly destructive.

Pearl Jam
Vitalogy
(1994)

“Ten” It was a little overproduced. “Vs” precisely the opposite. Then they took out “Vitalogy” and they nailed it. It’s raw and original at the same time. “Tremor Christ” takes me back to my room when I was fifteen years old and drawing pictures for a girl he was in love with.

Leonard Cohen
Songs Of Love And Hate
(1971)

Right in the middle of all the noise I was listening to as a teenager, I heard this record playing in my brother’s bedroom and I was transfixed. I couldn’t imagine how you could leave so much space and be so fascinating.

The Felice Brothers
The Felice Brothers
(2008)

My wife loves scoundrels (lucky for me) and this band became one of our favorites. This album sounds like they just came back from touring for years and played their repertoire while the producer was still trying to get his act together.

Bob Dylan
Desire
(1976)

I could have chosen from many Dylan albums, but in terms of what this album gave me as a kid, it can’t be beat. It hides so many life lessons. It should be mandatory for all seven-year-olds to listen to it.

Portishead
Dummy
(1994)

This album continues to be one of the most timeless works in history for me. An absolute treasure that stands out on its own regardless of what you put next to it.
