Ohio official Niki Frenchko was arrested for criticizing the sheriff. The right to free speech has been violated. the woman will be compensated

(LaPresse) – Niki Frenchko’s arrest was a violation of constitutional rights. This was established by a federal judge regarding the arrest of the Ohio official, taken during a meeting of county commissioners, for criticizing the sheriff during the same meeting. The judge thus ruled in favor of the Trumbull County commissioner in her lawsuit. “I felt compelled to file because government officials don’t have the ability to treat someone the way they did me,” Frenchko said. Frenchko was arrested in 2022, live streaming, and charged under an Ohio law that makes it a crime to “prevent or disrupt a meeting.” The law prohibits obstructionist behavior or speech that “outrages the sensibilities of the group.” The charge was later dropped. Frenchko later filed a federal lawsuit instead. District Judge J. Philip Calabrese ruled that the official was arrested for exercising her right to free speech. The video of the arrest, released by Frenchko herself, had made the rounds on the Web (Ap/LaPresse)
