BRUSSELS, 04 MAR – The EU Antitrust has decided one record fine of 1.8 billion euros to Apple for violations of the rules on competition with the services of streaming musicale. The executive reports this in a note speaking of “unfair commercial conditions” practiced by the group.
According to what emerged from the investigation, he explains, Apple blocks music streaming app developers to be able to inform users with iPhone and iPad on alternative and cheaper music streaming services. The investigation began following a complaint from Spotify. The amount is significantly higher than the press rumors which spoke of a fine of 500 million.
The Antitrust decision “was taken despite the Commission’s failure to uncover credible evidence of harm to consumers and ignores the reality of a thriving, competitive and rapidly growing market.” Apple in a note. “The main supporter of this decision, and the biggest beneficiary, is Spotify, a company based in Stockholm, Sweden. Spotify has the largest music streaming app in the world and has met with the European Commission more than 65 times during this investigation.”
