The Government of Israel believes that Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah could take advantage of Ramadan to redouble their attacks

Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, warned on Tuesday that Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah could exploit the Muslim holidays of Ramadan to launch a “second stage” of attacks on Israeli territory. Gallant expressed concerns during an evaluation of the Central Command of the Israeli Armed Forces, stating that Hamas aims to escalate tensions during Ramadan, with a focus on the Temple Mount and Jerusalem.

Gallant also emphasized the need to not give Hamas any opportunities to further escalate the conflict. In response to calls for imposing restrictions on Palestinians in the West Bank, Gallant advised against irresponsible statements that could lead to a rapid escalation of events.

The recent conflict, which began on October 7 when Hamas launched attacks on Israeli territory, has resulted in a significant death toll and ongoing military responses by the Israeli Armed Forces. The toll on Palestinian lives, especially women and children, continues to rise as clashes persist.

In the midst of the conflict, Hezbollah has also launched attacks on northern Israel, prompting further responses from the Israeli Army. With support from Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis in Yemen have continued to pose a threat to regional stability.

President Joe Biden has indicated that Israel is willing to halt its offensive against Hamas in Gaza during Ramadan. Negotiators from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar are working on a framework agreement for a temporary ceasefire, which could lead to the release of hostages held by Hamas.

Biden’s remarks suggest that a ceasefire could potentially take effect next week, allowing for continued negotiations for the release of remaining hostages. However, the president did not call for an immediate end to the conflict sparked by Hamas’ initial attacks in October.
