BANGKOK – The most infamous Burmese prison, sadly famous in the world with the name of the Insein district where it stands outside Rangoon, was built by the British in 1887. At that time the old Central Gaol, also of their own construction, was overcrowded and although there were no separatists or dissidents like today’s civil disobedience youth, the high number of swindlers, murderers and street bandits always required new spaces.
