The nominees for the 2024 Oscars were announced this Tuesday at a ceremony that took place at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California, USA. Jack Quaid and Zazie Beetz were responsible for announcing the films that stood out over the last year. The big highlight goes to “Oppenheimer”, by Christopher Nolan, which has 13 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor or Best Supporting Actress. “Poor Creatures”, by Yorgos Lanthimos, has 11 nominations, “Killers of the Flower Moon”, by Martin Scorsese, has 10, and “Barbie”, by Greta Gerwig, has eight.
Even though the Portuguese title “Um Caroço de Abacate” by Ary Zara, candidate for a nomination in the Best Short Film category, was left out of this list, there are two national names to be celebrated: that of producer Joaquim dos Santos, responsible for “Spider Man Into de Spider Verse”, and that of fado singer Carminho, who has a song in “Pobres Criatures”, a film that is nominated for Best Original Soundtrack.
