The mullah from Guantanamo: “Isis defeats itself by recognizing the Taliban”

Abdul Zaeef was one of Mullah Omar’s closest associates. In 1979, following the Soviet invasion, he fled to Pakistan. In 1983 he fought jihad by joining the Afghan resistance. When the war was over he returned to Kandahar where, in 1994, he participated in the founding of the Taliban. In 2002, Zaeef was handed over to US intelligence in Pakistan and spent four years in Guantanamo Prison.
