On October 25, local time, according to RIA Novosti news, the Russian Defense Ministry summoned the German military attache in Russia and submitted to him a note regarding the remarks made by the German Defense Minister Karenbauer on nuclear deterrence in Russia. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Karenbauer’s remarks provoked tensions in Europe and were not conducive to normalization of the situation.
Previously, Karenbauer had stated that NATO needs to conduct military deterrence against Russia’s use of nuclear weapons in the Baltic and Black Sea regions.
