The unusual mistake that allowed the attack on the US base in Jordan in which three soldiers died

A drone strike killed three US soldiers and wounded dozens at a base in Jordan, leading to speculation on whether the enemy drone responsible was mistaken for an American one. The claims suggest that the enemy drone was flying at low altitude and was mistakenly thought to be one returning to Tower 22, so no effort was made to intercept it.

Meanwhile, authorities have confirmed that most of the wounded soldiers suffered cuts, bruises, traumatic brain injuries and similar injuries, with eight of them evacuated for medical reasons, while the most seriously injured is in critical but stable condition.

Amidst ongoing tensions, the White House has rejected Iran’s alleged involvement in the drone attack, as the situation continues to escalate. With the attack blamed on militias under Iranian tutelage, the situation is an added complexity to an already tense time in the Middle East.

Amid growing calls for Biden to confront Iranian militias, former Trump officials John Bolton and Donald Trump have been critical, suggesting the needs to send a strong message to Tehran with attacks on Iranian ships and air defenses.

The attack comes as the US officials are hopeful for progress in negotiations for a deal between Israel and Hamas, aiming to release more than 100 hostages in Lebanon in exchange for a prolonged pause in fighting.
