The Venezuelan opposition assured that the Maduro regime is isolated after criticism from Lula and Macron

The Venezuelan opposition party Voluntad Popular, led by Leopoldo López, has declared that the Maduro regime is isolated following criticism from former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and French president Emmanuel Macron. This comes after Lula described the impediment to registering opposition candidate Corina Yoris as a presidential candidate as “serious,” with Macron also expressing concern over the situation.

The leaders of Brazil and France both stated that the obstacles faced by Yoris in registering as a candidate are troubling. Lula emphasized that there is no political or legal justification for preventing Yoris from running, while Macron condemned the exclusion of a serious and credible candidate from the electoral process.

Despite these challenges, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) managed to provisionally register Edmundo González Urrutia as a candidate. However, the opposition continues to face difficulties in nominating their preferred candidates, with international observers denouncing the obstacles faced by the opposition.

Political analysts and experts within the opposition have stressed the importance of maintaining unity in order to present a strong challenge to Maduro in the upcoming elections. The opposition has until April 20 to define their candidate, with the possibility of González Urrutia stepping aside in favor of Manuel Rosales.

The situation in Venezuela remains tense as the opposition grapples with internal conflicts and external pressures. The fate of the upcoming elections hangs in the balance as the opposition seeks to navigate a path forward in the face of adversity.
