The White House is considering asking Americans to return to wearing masks more often, in an attempt to contain the spread of Covid-19 with the new cases tripling in two weeks, due to the contagious Delta variant.
According to the Washington Post, the discussions are at a preliminary stage and could end with a simple message to the public from senior White House officials. But some members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also participate in the talks, who are separately examining the idea of updating the guidelines on the use of masks, according to a collaborator of the Biden administration and a source in federal health authorities.
The ongoing talks reflect growing concerns within the US administration about the threat posed by the Delta variant of Covid-19 and the renewed need to assess what measures to take to slow its spread.
