Thomas Stamm will not be Christian Streich’s direct successor

The departure of Christian Streich after 12 years as head coach of SC Freiburg in the summer is official. The search for a successor has begun. It is clear that Freiburg’s Swiss coach of the second team, Thomas Stamm, will not be a direct successor.

According to “Sky” reporter Florian Plettenberg, this decision has already been made by the Breisgauers. Stamm has been working for the Bundesliga club for almost nine years. He initially coached the U19s, and since 2021 he has been head coach of the second team. However, he will not take over the professional team in the summer.

A hotter candidate, however, is former Freiburg captain Julian Schuster. The 38-year-old has been working as talent development coordinator for the Breisgauer team since 2018. According to “Sky” he is one of the top candidates for the Streich successor.
