In total, they were 15 games under the command of the Rio club, with four victories, seven draws and four defeats.

Previously, in the 1-0 defeat to Flamengo, Tiago Nunes highlighted how Mateo Ponte grew up training apart from Botafogo, on the way to the Pre-Olympic competition. “I want to publicly thank Professor Marcelo Bielsa (under-23 coach of the Uruguay), I had the pleasure of talking to him many times during these 40 days, he was a gentleman with us. We released Mateo because we believed he would grow with Bielsa’s presence in his training process. They sent me all the training, all the filming, I saw Mateo training every day. And what he showed on a daily basis in training, friendlies and in the Pre-Olympics gave me the necessary confidence that he could play. The conversation with Professor Bielsa also gave me this confidence.”
Poor cast management
Another point of impact that undermined Tiago Nunes’ work was the management of the cast. On several occasions, he used players in unusual positions and, during matches, he had incorrect readings of the game.

At the beginning of the season, with Mateo Ponte transferred to the Uruguayan Olympic team and using a system with three defenders, the coach even placed Tchê Tchê and Victor Sá on the right wing.
