The government statement stated that Mehihi will work remotely and continue to perform his duties, and those who have had contact with the prime minister will be tested.

Mehihi is 47 years old and became prime minister last year. He completed the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination on the 25th of last month. According to African media reports, Mechhi was vaccinated by Pfizer. This vaccine was jointly developed by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. of the United States and New Biotechnology Company of Germany.

Tunisia was more successful in preventing and controlling the first wave of new crown epidemics last year, but the current situation of epidemic prevention and control is grim. On the 24th, 3951 newly confirmed cases were reported in a single day.

A spokesperson for the Tunisian Ministry of Health said on the 25th that Tunisia had an average of 82 new deaths from new crowns in the past week, “exceeding estimates”; hospitals were under heavy pressure, and “the hospitalization rate exceeded 90%.”

The Ministry of Health announced that among Tunisia’s 250 administrative regions, 28 severely affected areas have implemented restrictive measures, banning sports events and celebrations, shops selling non-essential goods will continue to be closed, and people should stay at home as much as possible.

As of the 24th, Tunisia had a total of more than 390,000 confirmed cases of new crown, and a total of 14,406 deaths.
