U.N. Security Council holds meeting on Ukraine situation, Russia and US confront tit-for-tat

by admin

On January 31, local time, the UN Security Council held a public meeting on the situation in Ukraine at the request of the United States.

Russia-US tit-for-tat, many countries call for restraint

At the meeting, Russia and the United States fought tit-for-tat, and many countries said that the meeting was not conducive to the unity of the Security Council.

Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Nebenja, said the U.S. convening the meeting was based entirely on “unfounded” speculation that Russia was about to invade Ukraine, which Russia has repeatedly denied. Russia believes that the U.S. action will not help the unity of the Security Council and will be bad for Ukraine.

The U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Thomas Greenfield, said in his speech that Ukraine faces a very high threat due to Russia’s military actions, and the United Nations-led international order has also been challenged.

At the meeting, many countries called on all parties to exercise restraint, stop the escalation of the situation, and called on the members of the Security Council to unite in dealing with international security issues.

China representative: The crisis should not be hyped up

At an open meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine, China’s permanent representative to the UN Zhang Jun expounded China’s position and called on all parties concerned to remain calm and refrain from doing anything to stimulate tension and hype up the crisis.

Zhang Jun said China was paying attention to the reasons for the tension in Ukraine. Some countries, led by the United States, insist that there will be a war in Ukraine recently, which is totally unreasonable. Relevant parties should insist on seeking to resolve differences through dialogue and negotiation. Zhang Jun also pointed out that NATO is a product of the Cold War period, and the expansion of NATO is not only a concentrated expression of group politics, but also an issue that cannot be avoided in dealing with the tension in Ukraine.
