She will be the first woman to lead the American Association in Taiwan. In the absence of formal official relations, Sun Xiaoya is the de facto American ambassador.
Sun Xiaoya’s appointment comes at a time when Taiwan’s relations with the United States and China are undergoing major changes, and the pace of the Biden administration’s appointment of a special envoy to Beijing is very slow, and the position is still vacant. Washington is working hard to strengthen its semi-official relations with Taipei in the commercial and cultural fields. The two sides already have strong cooperation in the field of national defense, working together to make the increasingly arrogant CCP retreat.

The Biden administration continues to implement its predecessor’s Taiwan policy and strengthen relations with Taiwan.
