Tiscali Italia SpA, a telecommunications operator among the first in the ultrabroadband access segment and the main operating company of the Tessellis Group, organized a discussion table focused on the relationship between man and machine and the impact of composable artificial intelligence, in collaboration with the ‘European FS Tech Hub of SDA Bocconi School of Management.

The meeting was held on 22 April at the SDA Bocconi headquarters in via Sarfatti in Milan, with the participation of experts from the academic world, industry professionals, journalists and young talents eager to explore the role of AI in our society.

Thanks to the presence of experts, different methods of vertical applications of artificial intelligence in Italy will be discussed, delving into the sustainability of this technology, its scalability and impact on democratic processes.

IPCEI CIS: the role of Tiscali

Tiscali Italia is among the five companies selected in Italy as part of the first important project of common European interest (IPCEI) on technologies for the creation of a European value chain of new generation Cloud Infrastructures and Services, called “IPCEI CIS” ( also IPCEI Cloud).

Tiscali will be a protagonist in the development of Multimodal Generative Artificial Intelligence with its Villanova Project, which aims to overcome linguistic and technological barriers in the large-scale use of multimodal generative AI. This innovative technology will open new frontiers in the dynamic creation of textual and multimedia content, revolutionizing the way we interact with machines.

The European Commission has authorized Italy to provide a maximum value of state aid to the 5 participating Italian companies of approximately 409 million euros, out of a total of over 1.2 billion at European level. The main goal of the IPCEI CIS is the creation of a completely new decentralized environment, which will enable a software infrastructure for the advanced use of data processing resources from the cloud to the edge. This new open ecosystem, managed by multiple vendors, will reduce technology dependencies and lock-in effects. Furthermore, it will enable a new dimension of data-driven business models, for example related to AI and IoT, for a broad spectrum of sectors and industries such as manufacturing, mobility, energy and tourism.

Villanova Project

As regards the Villanova Project, the Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) models, components and technologies created will be able to enable the dynamic creation of high-quality textual and multimedia content in real time.

Villanova also aims to offer advanced tools for the development of GenAI Composable Applications, i.e. advanced applications built using reusable software components based on GenAI. This approach will make it possible to simplify the development of state-of-the-art solutions and democratize access to the most advanced artificial intelligence technologies, making them accessible even to small businesses with limited resources.

Finally, the Tiscali project, by adopting the principles of open-source, intends to create a broad ecosystem of developers, companies and institutions, promoting the training of future experts and scientists in sectors that are crucial for the technological and social future of the country.

Tiscali once again confirms itself as a pioneer in the field of technological innovation, acting consistently with its Industrial Plan and adopting new approaches to guarantee profitable growth of its business. Promoting the use of Multimodal Generative Artificial Intelligence is an area of enormous importance and relevance for redefining our future.
