EU countries should reduce gas demand by 15% between 1 August 2022 and 31 March 2023. This is the European Commission’s proposal, contained in a regulation of the “Plan to save the winter”, with measures to reduce gas demand. The new regulation would also give Brussels the possibility to declare, after consultation with the Member States, a ‘Union alert’ on security of supply, imposing a reduction – the percentage of which is not specified in the Union executive plan – the demand for gas from all states.
