Ukraine-Russia war: who was the Fox News cameraman killed

Less than 24 hours after the wounding of the journalist Benjamin Hall, still in very serious conditions, the war in Ukraine hits the American broadcaster Fox News again. The cameraman Pierre Zarzewski, who worked in the war zones with Hall, was killed under the blows of Russian artillery. According to a still partial reconstruction of the facts, Zakrzewski may have been injured when the vehicle in which he was traveling with Hall was hit while it arrived in Horenla, on the outskirts of Kiev. Hall suffered severe leg fractures, Zakrzewski didn’t make it. He is the second foreign journalist killed during the war in Ukraine, after the American Brent Renaud.

In a post on Telegram, advisor to the Ukrainian Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko reported that with Fox correspondent Benjamin Hall and cameraman Pierre Zakrewski there was also producer Alexandra Kuvshinova, whose conditions are still unknown. “Judging by the nature of Ben Hall’s injuries, the Fox News team was hit by mortar or artillery fire from the Russian occupiers near the village of Gorenki, in the Kiev region, on the road to Irpin,” explained the Councilor Gerashchenko, adding that Hall “is in serious condition and has undergone numerous surgeries.”

Zakrzewski was a veteran war photojournalist who had “covered nearly every internal story for Fox News from Iraq to Afghanistan to Syria,” Fox News chief executive Suzanne Scott wrote in breaking the news to the station’s employees. He had been in Ukraine since February.

“His talents were vast and there wasn’t a role he didn’t step in to help on the ground – from photographer to engineer, editor to producer – and he did it all under immense pressure with incredible skill,” Scott said. “He was deeply committed to telling the story and his courage, his professionalism and his work ethic were renowned among journalists of all media.”

“He was extremely popular: everyone in the media industry who followed a foreign story knew and respected Pierre,” added Scott.
