Ultra-broadband and the food industry: growing thanks to connectivity

The research commissioned by EOLO highlights the role of a quality connection in economic growth

Ultra-broadband is undoubtedly a driving force for economic growth, and the food sector is no exception.

Almost half of the companies in the sector that have a connection of this type closed 2023 with a growing turnover prospect, trailing those with the same expectations, but not connected, by as much as 20 percentage points.

These data emerge from new research commissioned by EOLOa leading benefit company in the provision of connectivity via FWA technology and the first B Corp in the telecommunications sector in Italya Community Research&Analysis, under the scientific direction of Prof. Marini of the University of Padua.

Companies with access to ultra-broadband report some key elements of this success: almost 80% highlight that connectivity allows better control of production processes; 72% greater efficiency; 61% improved quality and safety control.

Furthermore, for all the data examined, non-connected companies tend to minimize the effects of connectivity on their business. Those who do not have ultra-broadband are less inclined to evaluate its positive impact, with negative differentials reaching up to 25 percentage points.

An example is the efficient management of the supply chain: here ultra-broadband plays a fundamental role for companies already connected (75%), but less than half of non-connected companies are of the same opinion.

Further evidence of the benefits of ultra-broadband for companies in the sector can also be found in investment forecasts. Almost 20% of non-connected companies expect a reduction in investments in their business, a similar percentage to those who intend to increase them (22.9%). Among connected companies these numbers improve significantly: forecasts of increasing investments reach 27.6%, while only 14% of the sample expects a contraction.

“Connectivity is a fundamental development driver for the country, allowing companies to grow and become more competitive”, points out Andrea Pelizzaro, Chief Sales Officer of EOLO, “To make more and more areas of the country connected, EOLO technology plays a crucial role, because it represents the best solution for reaching territories with low population density. In fact, it is in these areas that many SMEs are concentrated, including in the food sector, which, not being able to access ultra-broadband, find themselves competing at a disadvantage”.
