New major victory for Donald Trump in the primaries for the Midterm elections: former financier David McCormick acknowledged the victory of TV star surgeon Mehmet Oz, candidate supported by the tycoon, in the race for a senatorial seat in Pennsylvania. After the count, Oz had a margin so narrow that the recount had taken place but with the re-examination still in progress McCornick admitted his defeat. McCormick closed his campaign on Friday night, acknowledging that the ongoing statewide recount wouldn’t give him enough votes to catch up.
Before the recount, Oz was ahead of McCormick by 972 votes out of 1.34 million votes counted in the May 17 primaries. At this point we are moving towards a challenge between Oz and the Democrat John Fetterman, in what promises to be one of the most important national competitions for the Senate. Oz, best known as the host of the daytime television program The Dr. Oz Showhas had to overcome a barrage of attacks and the perplexities of Trump’s staunchest supporters about his conservative credentials on arms, abortion, transgender rights and other key issues for Republicans.
