A 53-year-old African-American man died while in police custody in Guangzhou, in Ohio. The death after an officer lo he pinned to the ground with his knee on his neck and shortly after the man shouted “I can’t breathe”. The police released the video of 36 minutes of the accident that happened on April 18th, and into which an investigation has been launched. The officers involved have been temporarily suspended. The victim’s name was Frank Tyson and the dynamics are reminiscent of those that led to the death of George Floyd, occurred in May 2020 in Minneapolis. The release of the video of Floyd’s arrest, in which the police officer is seen Derek Chauvin keeping his knee on the man’s neck for nine minutes, causing the man’s death, triggered a wave of demonstrations and protests across the United States.

Tyson was stopped by the police on suspicion of having left the scene of a car accident. The video released today begins with a patrol officer coming across a car that had hit a pole and a passerby telling him that the driver of the vehicle fled to a nearby bar. They are then seen entering the club, where they find Tyson standing at the bar. An altercation ensued as they attempted to grab his arms, and he repeatedly shouted “They’re trying to kill me” and “Call the sheriff.” The officers then wrestle Tyson to the ground and handcuff him. Then a policeman places a knee near his neck.
