Crackdown on purchases, especially for those under 21, and the possibility for American states to adopt “red flag” rules to take away weapons from dangerous subjects for themselves and for others
A bipartisan group of senators reached a preliminary agreement on weapons by finding an agreement on stricter controls on purchases, especially for those under 21, and additional funds for the safety of schools. The agreement also encourages US states to adopt ‘red flag’ laws, which are rules that allow police and families to ask a state court to temporarily remove the weapons of someone who might be dangerous for himself and for others.
The agreement reached by the bipartisan group of senators on weapons “does not have everything I think necessary, but it is an important step in the right direction”. This was stated by Joe Biden, underlining that if the agreement is approved it will be the most significant that has had the approval of Congress in decades. Biden assures that he will sign the provision: “the sooner it arrives on my table, the sooner I can sign it”.
