Vincent Kriechmayer will therefore have no choice in Austria: he will have to impose himself and hope that the best alpine skier on the planet finishes outside the top 15. A scenario difficult to imagine: since his 28th place in Kvitfjell in March 2022 , Marco Odermatt has finished 15 super-Gs in a row in the top four!

If victory eluded him this weekend, Marco Odermatt nevertheless has reason to rejoice. He thus finally managed to tame the Olympiabakken of Kvitfjell, scene of the races of the Lillehammer 1994 Olympic Games, where he had never been able to place in the top 10 in six races contested until then.

His seventh place in a downhill won by Niels Hintermann also allowed him to perform excellently in the fight for the Globe of the premier discipline. The Nidwalden, who would have been crowned in the event of victory on Saturday, is 42 points ahead of Cyprien Sarrazin before the final descent of the season.

Eighth place for Arnaud Boisset

On Sunday, Marco Odermatt was only beaten by 0”19 by Vincent Kriechmayr on a shortened route due to freezing fog at the top. Everything came down to the bottom of the course, with the Austrian taking 0”33 from the Nidwalden and 0”49 from Jeffrey Read (second in the end, 0”17 behind) in the last 16 seconds of the race.

The second best Swiss was Arnaud Boisset, who climbed to thirteenth place in the discipline rankings. The 25-year-old from Valais conceded only 0”15 to Marco Odermatt and Dominik Paris (tied third) to sign his second best result at this level after his seventh place obtained during the previous super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

“I showed what I was capable of in the European Cup for several seasons. Now I have my chance in the World Cup, and I’m taking it. The dream continues,” Arnaud Boisset explained to SRF, who scored his third top 10 at this level and will therefore be present in Saalbach in the final.

Stefan Rogentin ranked thirteenth while Franjo von Allmen, fifth on Saturday in the downhill and third in the second super-G in Garmisch, finished 21st. The Friborg Alexis Monney, however, did not manage to take a place among the first 30, Justin Murisier having been eliminated.
