Hartkirchen.

In Hartkirchen (Eferding district), a major explosion occurred on Wednesday afternoon in a bakery and pastry shop in the town center. Six fire departments were deployed.

The fire brigade was already on duty at midday on a suspected fire. According to initial information, an oil leak and small deflagrations occurred in the area of a large boiler during maintenance work by a company. The oil supply was then switched off and the situation was continuously monitored. When the temperatures had dropped so far, the all-clear was given for the time being. After the fire brigade left, flames were spotted again. Just as the fire brigade was about to leave, a violent explosion obviously occurred. The roof was severely damaged, with parts flying into neighboring gardens, a playground and the street. Damage was also caused to neighboring buildings. The fire brigade cordoned off the nearby area for safety reasons, as a second boiler of identical construction is also located in the building. According to initial information, miraculously no one was injured.
“On March 6, 2024 at around 3:00 p.m. there was an explosion in a bakery in the Eferding district. Windows of some neighboring houses shattered due to the pressure wave and also due to parts of the building flying away. There was considerable damage to the company building itself. The affected area was extensive cordoned off by the emergency services deployed. Entry into the affected company area was prohibited by the building authority. The official act and further investigations were taken over by fire investigators from the Upper Austria State Criminal Police Office. According to current findings, there may have already been problems with one of the oil stoves in the company’s basement. “The investigators called in a fire expert from the Upper Austria fire prevention office. By evacuating the building in a timely manner, personal injuries were prevented,” said the police.
