The interview is expected to be published on Thursday, writes Wall Street Journal. The Russian state news agency Tass quotes Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that the interview has been completed.
The strongly right-wing Carlson announced the interview on Tuesday.
– We are going to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin. There are risks with such an interview, and we have thought it through for several months, Carlson said in a social media video on Tuesday.
First from the West
It is the first time that Putin has allowed himself to be interviewed by a Westerner since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says Putin allowed himself to be interviewed because he stands out from the Western media.
– When it comes to countries in the West, online media, TV channels and major newspapers cannot boast that they are trying to appear impartial, says Peskov.
Many requests
He says that many Western media want to interview Putin.
– These are media that take a very one-sided position. There is of course no desire to communicate with such media. It hardly makes sense, and it is unlikely that it will be useful, says Peskov.
Carlson, who is known for his powerful rhetoric and for spreading conspiracy theories, says it is his duty to “inform people” because most Americans are not informed about the war due to “corrupt media”.
He was fired from Fox News last year. Now he publishes interviews on X, formerly Twitter, and on his own website.
