Grêmio found its way back to victory, this Wednesday (17), by beating Athletico-PR 2-0 at the Arena, in Porto Alegre, in the 2nd round of the Brazilian Championship.
The two goals were scored by foreign players: Argentine Cristaldo and Venezuelan Soteldo, one in each half. Thus ended coach Cuca’s eight-game unbeaten run at the helm of Furacão.
With the victory, Tricolor Gaúcho adds the first three points in the Brasileirão and provisionally takes eighth place. Furacão has the same three points, but is in 7th based on goal difference.
First time
The first good chance of the game came from Athletico-PR, in the 11th minute, when Cuello took paint off the Grêmio defense post and narrowly missed opening the scoring. Then, Pavón shot at goal, but Kaique Rocha cut it.
In another great performance, Cristaldo opened the scoring for Tricolor, in the 18th minute. 1 to 0. At 21, Villasanti tried to expand but couldn’t.
Striker Pavón looked very good for the game. In the 22nd minute, the Argentine dropped a bomb on Bento, but the goalkeeper palmed it away. Then he did the same and the Hurricane archer took it.
At 28, Julimar, from Furacão, almost hit Marchesín’s goal to tie the game. With a lot of movement, Canobbio had a good opportunity in the 38th minute but finished above the goal.
Before the first half ended, in the 43rd minute, Pavón took a strong shot and Bento saved.
Second time
Five minutes into the second half, Soteldo expanded for Tricolor after receiving a pass from Villasanti. 2 to 0 Grêmio.
At ten, João Pedro Galvão tried to score the third, but Bento saved. At 12, it was Gustavo Nunes’ turn to bring danger to Furacão and again the archer from Paraná took the ball away.
Tricolor continued to press hard and it was only at the end of the second half that Athletico-PR managed to create an opportunity, but without being effective.
