[Busan Kyodo]The ninth day of the World Table Tennis Championships team competition was held in Busan, South Korea on the 24th, and Japan narrowly lost to China 2-3 in the women’s final, winning the silver medal for the fifth consecutive tournament.
In the first match, Japan’s Miwa Harimoto (Kinoshita Group) lost to world number one Sun Yingsha. Next, Hina Hayata (Nippon Life Insurance Company) defeated 2021 Tokyo Olympics singles champion Chen Meng, and Miu Hirano (Kinoshita Group) defeated world No. 2 Wang Yidi. Although she had one more win, Hayata lost in the fourth match and Harimoto Mitsumi lost in the fifth match, leaving her one step short and unable to become world number one for the first time in 53 years. China won for the 23rd time in six consecutive tournaments.
The next team World Championship will be held in London in 2026.
