Your Other Beautiful, interview in Mondo Sonoro (2024)

This new work is marked by love, since all the lyrics are focused on it, although not in the same way. “We wanted to make an album that didn’t beat around the bush, that talked about love. It was a stage in my life in which I wanted to focus on love in its different forms, in a youthful way, but with the experience that we already have. And I wanted to deal with fervent love, also heartbreak, and the love for a daughter, since I have been a father during the creation of this album.”. All that love is reflected in a somewhat nostalgic way, something that is noticeable both in the lyrics and in the sound, more typical of past decades. “The idea that came to me in this album is to make it about that love from the nineties, when we were teenagers and you would tell your friend to approach the girl you liked to ask if she wanted something. And it’s a little bit like that. We have learned to love a lot through the texts and melodies of the songs and not through social networks. “We treated love as we heard it in the songs of Eros Ramazzotti or Laura Pausini and that is the idea of the album, to reclaim the way it was before dating in an analogical way.”. As Héctor rightly points out, in the band’s new album there are clear references to the Italian pop music of the nineties, something that he has no problem confirming to us. “Italian music has always caught my attention, it seems very differentiating to me. I have really loved those songs by those Italian artists who began to sing in Spanish with an accent that fascinated me, it captivated me a lot. But, beyond the old songs, I have been greatly influenced by Sangiovanni, a young Italian artist who I find very interesting. For all this, with all due respect, I have tried to capture Italian music.”

“We were clear that a song couldn’t sound so different that it would take you out of the context of the album”

“Do you want to roll?” is the album of Your Other Beautiful more cohesive regarding sound. Moving away from amalgamations of genres, they have decided from the beginning to bet on a single sound, the one that is so close to the Italian pop of yesteryear. “It was totally intended that we would go in that direction. In fact, the decision to produce only with Emilio Mercader was focused on this. We wanted to have a more modern sound, so that when you listened to the album it would be contextualized in our time. And I think we managed to ensure that when you listen to any song on the album you know that it specifically belongs to this album.”. This way of creating a work with a single producer is something new for the group, which has always had different producers on the same album. “There are times when we have been critical of this way of working, because we really like the variety that enriches the albums. But this time we were clear that a song couldn’t sound so different that it would take you out of the context of the album. “We have opted for this formula and we have felt very good working with it”. And, unlike in “Crema” (21), in which they invited up to seven different artists, they have decided to only have two collaborations. “We are going to release more because we are already working on them, but for the moment we have decided to make these two for the album. At the beginning we had not talked about collaborations and the truth is that it could have come out completely without any, but upon hearing it in full we wanted to have Shinova in ‘Y si no soy yo’ and the Baby thing in ‘Colorado de azul’ was luckily. We sent her the song, which I wrote the day before before sending the complete album to the record company, without knowing it at all, she loved it and said yes and the truth is that it goes like a shot “. What is surprising about these featurings is that in the song that she sings together with Gabriel de la Rosa (Shinova), they include it as a bonus track, including the solo version of Tu Otra Bonita in the original tracklist. “The band is going to use that formula more. “It seems curious to me to present our follower’s song by our hand and then accompanied by another artist, because this way they will have two different points of view.”

Aside from all these changes, they face an even bigger one: the jump to larger venues. A challenge that makes them dizzy, but one that they are looking forward to. “It’s dangerous and fun at the same time. There are days when you see that you have sold a lot of tickets and others not so much and you say ‘My goodness’. But we are preparing the tour and each concert is going to be a great gig no matter who comes. He’s going to be more scoundrel, he’s going to have more strength and he’s going to be focused on dancing and enjoying. We talk about doing a more dog live show”.
