Partizan lost to Zvezda in the final of the Radivoj Korać Cup, and after the match the coach of the black and white team Željko Obradović first congratulated the winner and the winner of the trophy. And then there was a very dramatic and tumultuous speech by the most trophy-winning European coach.
“Decency always dictates that first congratulations to Red Star, I really congratulate them for winning this final. I think the game was very good, we had our chances, but we were rash. I think we didn’t control our emotions and that’s the key of our defeat. I think when that happens, the responsibility is on the coach,” Obradović began.
And then he referred to the fact that inexperienced referees were delegated to this match and pointed out that the organization of the tournament was excellent, but that he was dissatisfied with the delegation of referees.
“Approximately all these three years when we came to Niš, we knew what was waiting for us. I’m talking about these three guys who are not fit to judge this. Why they are judging, I won’t go into that, but I don’t think they are fit to judge this. What as far as the organization is concerned, I think it was great, and the atmosphere was nice,” he said, then continued: “I would like to say a few things. From the moment I arrived, there was this rumor that Partizan was a state project. There is no bigger lie pronounced! It could be the other way around. I appeal to people from my club to come out in black and white with the data, so that it can be seen. As a coach, I have won many trophies, and I am most proud of the last trophy of the ABA League because I know where I work. It is my biggest and hardest trophy in my career.”
He added that he is proud of his work in Partizan and recalled his promises since he arrived among the black and whites.
“It’s interesting when you see those budgets and what Partizan does and how it works in the Euroleague, and I can say that I’m proud because the only thing I promised was that I would make Partizan a club,” Obradović said, then returned to the trial: The third time We haven’t won a trophy here in a row, fully aware of what awaits us here. Those who organize the tournament should ask themselves how three referees with no experience referee a match like this and why it is so.”
He spoke very emotionally at the end about his responsibility for the defeats that Partizan has suffered lately.
“I took responsibility. I think that some of my limits have been passed in the sense that I cannot influence them. I have to think about what we are going to do and how we are going to proceed, luckily we have a break. Without any objection to their combativeness and their desire, then the responsibility goes to the man who is there to teach them, and I obviously fail to do that. It has been shown in quite a few games,” he finished.
