Sandwich or salad for the workers of the Safilo plant in Longarone who do not have the Green pass. At the canteen there is a choice, complete dishes are served; those who stay out, however, are given only that one alternative, practical, but that the employees just can’t swallow.

The watchword of the eyewear factory in Longarone is that you cannot enter the canteen without green certification. Those who do not have it will be able to book the basket that consists of a sandwich or a salad in the morning. Meals for those who do not have the Green pass must however be consumed outside. Same thing for those who bring food from home: they will no longer be able to eat their meals inside the establishment but will have to eat in the canteen if equipped with a Green pass and outdoors if without. Until yesterday these employees could have lunch with the food they prepared themselves in the break area of the factory.
The unions say they are worried: they found themselves managing a hot potato not just, especially with the holidays in between. “We will discuss with the company in the coming days to try to find solutions or the best ways to manage this situation,” anticipates Rosario Martines, secretary of the provincial Uiltec Uil. “Nobody at Safilo is able to give me answers on this front because the directors with whom we usually have relations are on vacation”, explains the trade unionist who adds: “The meal is certainly not denied to workers without a Green Pass, but it is clear that a way must be studied. not to discriminate against these people “.
Meanwhile, discontent is growing among employees. “We are trying to manage the situation. Many are on vacation so the real litmus test will be next Monday when everyone returns to work ».
The question is important: «Here it is a question of whether workers will be able to eat sandwiches or salads forever instead of a full meal as they did until yesterday. And then consuming it outdoors, in the cold that is coming is certainly not the best. Some companies have thought of installing awnings, but this does not solve the question, also because at Safilo there are no external structures and no one talks about them ». There are external balconies but this is not enough to save from the rain and cold ».
Then the question remains that those who do not have the green certification, in defiance of privacy, will take a break in the courtyard. And therefore everyone will be able to know who has been vaccinated and who has not. «While remaining as a union in full support of the vaccine, it is clear that leaving people like this is not good. The problem is that the government has de facto delegated the management of these problems to the union ”.
