The young man stopped, ‘I went away, I didn’t think he was dead’

(ANSA) – BARI, 05 SEPT – “While we were standing on the benches under the gazebo with our wives,” Caprio “came over to overhear what we were saying and looked provocatively at our companions. Noticing this circumstance, I got up , I literally said to him ‘always back and forth you have to go? What’s the problem?’, so saying I threw three punches at him hitting him in the face, saw him fall to the ground and hit his head on the pavement. Not thinking he was going to die I went away”. This is the story told to the carabinieri and the magistrate by the 20-year-old Fabio Giampalmo, subjected to arrest for the aggravated voluntary murder of the 40-year-old Paolo Caprio, who died in the night during a quarrel in a service station on the outskirts of Bitonto, in the Bari area.

The confession of the 20-year-old is reported in the arrest decree notified to the suspect, defended by the lawyer Nicola Capaldi.

Giampalmo said he noticed the victim – whom he knew by sight – talking to his partner and those of his friends, while the men were inside the bar playing slot machines. At that point the 20-year-old would have gone out and, after yet another unwelcome glance, would have hit Caprio leaving him on the ground, and then drive away. A few hours after learning that the 40-year-old attacked was dead, he contacted the lawyer and handed himself over to the barracks. (HANDLE).
