[Epoch Times September 24, 2021]Recently, three students from Shanghai Fudan University were expelled from school for prostitution. The school publicized its sanction decision on campus in the form of real names, which caused controversy.

According to the disciplinary decision written on the Internet, the school issued a notice on September 18 and publicly posted it in the school’s public notice column in the form of real names.

The three expelled students are Fudan University’s 2019 PhD student Chen, 2019 master’s student Li, and 2020 master’s student Ge. They were on September 26, 2020, September 7, 2020, respectively. On January 13, 2021, he was punished by the Shanghai police for “administrative detention” ranging from 3 to 10 days for “prostitution outside the school”.

According to Article 40 of the school’s school rules, it also stipulates: “Those who engage in prostitution, whoring, or organize, coerce, induce, accommodate, or introduce others to prostitution shall be expelled from school.”

The school also imposed disciplinary sanctions on the three students. The full name, department and other detailed personal information of the three students were included in the sanction decision, which caused controversy.

On September 24, Fudan University responded to the Mainland Red Star News that the decision was made by the school’s security office and was reviewed and approved by the president’s office meeting. The scope of the punishment announcement is only in the school and not published on the Internet. This action is to “warn other students.”

In this regard, lawyer Zhao Jianli of Beijing Zhongming Law Firm said that this involves the protection of personality rights and privacy rights, and the school’s practice of publicly posting announcements to the public is indeed inappropriate.

The rule of law commentator Tan Mintao believes that the expulsion of students from Fudan University complies with relevant regulations. However, when the school punishes students, it should consider the privacy of the students and keep it confidential.

For this punishment, mainland netizens have opinions for and against.

Mainland netizens said, “Schools have school rules and follow them!” “Support the school’s handling.” “Schools are places for teaching and educating people. Schools are obliged to educate students when they make mistakes.” “But Zhang Bang’s announcement is a bit malicious.” “Schools should protect privacy, give individual warnings, and deal with them internally!”
