The Borghetto Tuchinis said goodbye to an important piece of their history, with the death, on the night between Sunday and last Monday, of one of the team’s founders, Enrico Piatti, aged 76, at his home in Chiaverano. The orange-throwing friends mourn him who, on the morning of Tuesday 28, placed the flags of the team, of the Croass and of Polenta and cod next to the coffin, and, in the evening, they met to pay homage to him.

Enrico Piatti was very close to the Borghetto, where he was born and raised, in via del Forno, right in the building where today is the seat of the Croatian Committee. Son of Mario (well-known Canavese painter, author of the very famous Tuchini crow and the suggestive decoration of the Polenta and cod office, as well as Substitute of the Grand Chancellor in 1959 and 1960 and secretary of the Croatian Committee), Enrico, together with his friends Antonio Pozza , Davide Tirassa and Giorgio Dametto, formed the nucleus around which the team would be composed, the only one “on the right bank of the Dora”. “It was 1963 – remembers Pozza – and we were motivated by a great desire to be able to join those who threw oranges in the Piazza di Città, but we decided to follow the advice of Enrico’s father, who suggested that we invent the Borghetto as a shooting place and to distinguish ourselves from the others, starting a story of our own. It was a successful experimental attempt and, the following year, 1964, the Tuchinis were officially born. Our mentor, also for the choice of the name, was always Mario Piatti who created the raven applied, first, on the overalls and, later on the red-green uniforms, our colors ». «Those were wonderful years – Pozza recalls – in which the team consolidated and grew in number and credibility. At the same time, our friendship was consolidated and never suffered shocks: each of us followed his own professional path, Enrico had the representation of an oil and fuel company, but, in Carnival time, the passion always made us find in the our square. This for thirty years. In 1993, we gave up shooting and founded the Ij Croass del Borghet association, to continue providing our contribution to the team. We then joined the Croatian Committee and, for many more editions, we dealt with Polenta and cod ». And he concludes: “In recent years, the carnival commitments inevitably thinned out, we kept the one of meeting a couple of times a year, to have a drink in company: now one of us will miss the call, but it will always be in our hearts”. “Among the founders of the Confraternity of grappa and Tomino, he has always worked for the success of all events”, Maurizio Tentarelli, deputy mayor of Chiaverano, is keen to remember.
