BELLUNO

The 24 hours of San Martino is back: today at 3 pm the 47th edition of the historic 24×1 relay takes off, representing a great piece of the history of sport in Belluno.

The organization is entrusted to the Pro loco Castionese.

After the forced stop of last year, the race is back and is now the only one in Italy to have such an important duration. In total 22 teams will participate (thirteen fewer than in the previous edition) for a total of 528.

The event is open to the public, but you can only eat and drink at the Pro-loco Castionese stand. Unfortunately, for reasons related to the pandemic, it will no longer be like in other years when the “big party” involved the stands of the various teams where you could taste various types of hot dishes and drinks of all kinds. Spectators will be able to enter with the Green Pass and there will be checks at the entrance to the stadium.

In fact, the dispute over the race wants to mark a first step towards normality, as underlined by the president of the pro-loco Maurizio Fontanelle: «We are optimistic, because we have saved this edition. It must be said that things change very quickly, just think of the latest decree which gives a further opening on indoor capacities, so I believe we are moving towards normality ». A thought goes to the protagonists of the event: «The participating teams deserve praise for having joined despite the limiting conditions. In addition, the compliments go to the volunteers who have been spending for a month to be able to propose an event that will be a show for the public in any case ».

Basically a welcome return: «This year we return to the essentiality of the sporting part, with a deliberately dry event. We can say that we run to “get back on track”; we are happy that the event can take place because this ancient race is a heritage that we want to preserve and also develop in the future ». –
