U.S. stocks mixed; Dow down 0.50% at close By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher; while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in New York, it was down 0.50% to hit a new one-year low, while the index lost 0.38% and gained 0.18%.

The best performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE: ), which rose 5.44% or 6.30 points to trade at 122.16 at the close. Meanwhile, Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: ) added 0.92% or 2.23 to 244.49 and Apple (NASDAQ: ) was up 0.67% or 0.88 to end trade at 132.76.

The worst performers of the session were Procter & Gamble (NYSE: ), which lost 3.12% or 4.31 points to trade at 133.84. Coca-Cola (NYSE: ) fell 2.74% or 1.67 points to end at 59.23; UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: ) lost 1.69% or 7.95 points to end at 461.75.

The best performers in the S&P 500 were FedEx Corp (NYSE: ), up 14.41% to end at 229.95; Oracle Corp (NYSE: ) up 10.41% to end at 70.72; CF Industries (NYSE: ) rose 7.94 %, closing at 93.25.

The worst-performing stock Baxter International Ltd. (NYSE: ) finally fell 5.71% to end at 67.48 in late trade; Pool Corp. (NASDAQ: ) lost 5.27% to end at 349.44; in addition, American Water Works (NYSE: ) ) fell 5.11% to end at 133.47.

The best performers on the Nasdaq Composite were Comera Life Sciences Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: ), up 126.50% to 2.65; ShiftPixy Inc (NASDAQ: ) up 53.38% to 0.35; Cosmos Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: ) rose 50.41% to trade at 0.70.

The worst performer, Outset Medical Inc (NASDAQ: ), was down 34.05% to end the session at 13.46; Redbox Entertainment Inc (NASDAQ: ) was down 33.92% to end at 10.09; and Calithera Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ: ) was down 30.95 %, closing at 0.14.

2,028 stocks on the New York Stock Exchange fell, outnumbering those that closed higher—1,188. At the same time, 126 stocks did not rise or fall, and were basically flat; on the Nasdaq, 2,169 stocks closed down and 1,711 stocks rose. In addition, 245 stocks were basically unchanged.

Shares in Baxter International Ltd (NYSE: ) fell to three-year lows; losing 5.71% or 4.09 to 67.48. Pool Corp . (NASDAQ: ) shares fell to one-year lows; losing 5.27% or 19.43 to 349.44. Shares in American Water Works (NYSE: ) fell to one-year lows, losing 5.11% or 7.19 to 133.47. Shares in Outset Medical Inc (NASDAQ: ) fell to all-time lows; losing 34.05% or 6.95 to 13.46. Calithera Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ: ) shares fell to all time lows; losing 30.95% or 0.06 to 0.14.

A measure of implied volatility for S&P 500 options fell 3.91% to 32.69.

Gold futures August options contract prices fell 1.22% or 22.30 to $1,809.50. As for the rest of the futures, the July delivery WTI crude oil futures contract fell 1.99% (2.41 points) to $118.52, while the August London Brent crude oil futures contract fell 1.27% (1.55) to trade at $120.72.

EUR/USD did not rise or fall by 0.05% to trade at 1.04; meanwhile, USD/JPY gained 0.66% to trade at 135.29.

U.S. dollar index futures were up 0.32% at 105.30.
